Younique
Younique is an XR system designed to reimagine cultural art practices through immersive, hands-on experiences. Rooted in the tradition of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, the project responds to barriers of accessibility in cultural learning—geography, cost, and limited resources—by creating a digital environment where authenticity and creativity can thrive. By bridging cultural heritage with interactive technology, Younique offers users a chance to connect with the philosophy, gestures, and spatial sensibilities of Ikebana in entirely new ways.

The system integrates three key innovations. First, a streamlined environment reconstruction workflow brings ultra-detailed, interactive workshop settings into VR, grounding the digital practice in familiar, relatable spaces. Second, intuitive, controller-free interactions mirror real Ikebana techniques, complemented by subtle, environment-integrated guidance that minimizes distraction and supports creative flow. Finally, an AR Quick View feature allows users to revisit and share their creations across everyday devices, extending engagement beyond the headset.

While centered on Ikebana, Younique demonstrates a versatile pipeline for XR applications that can be applied to a wide range of cultural art practices, skill-based learning, and immersive education. By combining realism, intuitive interaction, and cross-platform revisitation, it paves the way for accessible, engaging, and enduring cultural experiences that democratize access while preserving depth and authenticity.
